Writer staffing

Hire a screenwriter

We recruit writers and place them with directors and production companies who need one. A script that has stalled usually needs another writer, not another meeting.

Why studios come to us for this

Finding a writer in Indian cinema is done almost entirely by reference, which works until you need someone outside the circle you already know - a Telugu dialogue writer when your unit is in Chennai, a woman writer for a script that badly needs one, someone who has actually written horror rather than someone willing to try.

We keep a working list of writers we have read, and we read before we recommend. Nobody gets put forward on a showreel and a conversation.

What we place

  • Screenwriters for original features and adaptations.
  • Additional screenplay and dialogue writers to sit alongside a director who is writing their own script.
  • Language writers for a bilingual or dubbed release, working from the shooting script rather than the subtitles.
  • Story and development support for a production company with more projects than reading capacity.

How the placement works

  1. You tell us the project, the language, the budget bracket and how much of a script already exists.
  2. We come back with two or three writers, with samples, and our honest read on which one fits and why.
  3. You meet them directly. We are not in the room for that.
  4. If it works, we handle the engagement terms. If it does not, we go back and find someone else.

Where we work

Chennai and Hyderabad primarily, and remotely for development work anywhere. Writers do not need to be in the same city as the unit until the shooting script stage, and pretending otherwise narrows the field for no reason.

Questions we get

What does it cost to have you find a writer?

The production pays the writer, and we take an agreed fee on the placement. We tell you both numbers before you meet anyone.

Can we hire a writer for a short film or a series pilot?

Yes. Shorts and pilots are often where we place writers early in their careers, which is how the list stays current.

Do you place writers outside Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam?

Those are the languages we can vouch for, because those are the languages we read in. We will say so plainly rather than place someone we cannot assess.

We already have a writer but the script is stuck. Can you help?

That is the most common version of this request. Usually it needs a second writer alongside the first rather than a replacement, and we will say which we think it is after reading.

Tell us what you're after

Send the project, the language and roughly what it needs. We read everything and reply ourselves.
