We write screenplays for other people's productions. First draft, additional screenplay, or a rewrite on a script that has stopped moving.

What we take on

Three kinds of work, and we are direct about which one a project actually needs before quoting for it. Most scripts that arrive described as needing a polish need a rewrite, and saying so early is cheaper for everyone than discovering it in month four.

Original screenplay: From a premise, a logline, or a conversation. We deliver a treatment first, then a full draft, then two revision passes. You own the script.
Additional screenplay: A second writer on an existing script. Structure, a subplot that is not landing, dialogue in a language the first writer does not work in. This is the credit we hold on Tat Twam Assi.
Rewrite and script repair: A finished draft that is not working. We read it, tell you what we think is wrong in writing before any money changes hands, and only take the job if we think we can fix it.

How an engagement runs

You send the material and tell us the budget bracket and the shoot window. Both change what a script should be.
We read and come back with a written note: what the script is doing, what it is not, and what we would do about it. This note is free.
If you want to go ahead, we scope it in drafts and dates, not hours.
Treatment, draft, revisions. You see pages at each stage rather than waiting for a finished script to argue with.

Languages

We write in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, and in English for scripts that will be made in any of them. A screenplay written to be shot in two languages is not the same document as one translated afterwards, and we would rather be told at the start.

What we have written

Ingu Studios holds the additional screenplay credit on Tat Twam Assi, a pan-Indian spiritual action drama produced by Tantra Films and directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar, shooting now. In-house we hold two bound scripts and five stories in development.

Questions we get

Do you write in Tamil and Telugu, or only in English?

Both. We write in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, and in English where a script is going to producers before it goes to a floor. A bilingual shoot should be scripted as one from the start rather than translated afterwards.

Will you read a script before we commit to anything?

Yes. Send it and we come back with a written note on what we think is working and what is not. There is no charge for that, and no obligation on either side afterwards.

Who owns the screenplay?

You do, on a work-for-hire basis, from the point the fee is settled. We ask for the writing credit that the work earns and nothing beyond it.

How long does a first draft take?

A feature draft is usually eight to twelve weeks from an agreed treatment. Additional screenplay on an existing script is shorter and depends entirely on how much of it survives.
